I came to this drive after having disappointing experiences with Seagate and Western Digital drives, both 500 GB 7200 RPM models, themselves. The Seagate died within months (apparently a common problem with them) and the Western Digital had freezes and had a lot of vibration. While the freezes may have been due to incompatibility with my MacBook Pro, a fault of Apple, the vibration is obviously a problem with the drive. I bought this to replace a Seagate Momentus 7200.4 320GB that came as original equipment in an Asus laptop I recently purchased. The Seagate was noisy and the constant scratching/ticking noises it made were slowly driving me insane. It seems that this model of Seagate drives is plagued with issues. It is also the quietest drive that I have ever tried to listen to. The only way that you can hear it's operation is to turn of every noise producing thing in the house, wait for the middle of the night and place your ear directly on the laptop. Only then can you barely hear it. It also operates at a lot cooler temperature than the 320GB hard drive that it replaced. ...more

Additional speed versus size. I am glad I made this choice. Much snappier bootups, as quiet as OEM. Doesn't seem to affect battery life. It does run warm, but so did the OEM Hitachi. This was a snap to install, you could do it with your feet, it's that easy. Upgrade your RAM at the same time, and you'll have a new MAC. ...more

After my factory installed 200 gig 5400rpm HD died (less then 3 years) in my MacBook Pro i read the reviews on Amazon regarding this HD and was sold. It arrived very quickly and i installed it easily with Snow Leopard. I instantly notice how much faster it was then the 5400 (of course). My machine works flawlessly even better then before.
